The Girl's Guide to Homelessness: A Memoir by Brianna Karp

This book was rather interesting and thought provoking. So the basis of the book is that a woman had a rather good career until the recession hit. At this time she found herself out of a job, unable to find a new job, and quickly running through her savings. Throw in a bit of crazy family issues and Brianna finds herself, oh and her rather large Neapolitan Mastiff, in the situation of being homeless. She applied to jobs almost daily. She started keeping a blog with regards to the life she has found herself in. A guy who has turned homelessness into a career of sorts lives in Scotland and took an interest in Brianna's blog. He helps her to establish her blog and establish a way to gain some revenue. He also became a love interest.

Brianna went through some very terrible events throughout the book. I was in awe of some things, disgusted with myself and the stereotyping I've done in the past, and so angry with the humanity of some people. The fact that this book is a memoir made it all the more intense. It's really a well written book that makes you think about all manner of issues.

Enjoy!

Bloodfever by Karen Marie Moning

This is book #2 in the Fever series. It was more engaging than the first book. I found myself flying through the pages of this book and wondering what was going to happen next. I do look forward to the next book in the series, as ever it was left hanging...

This book continues to follow Mac in Ireland. She's figured out who is a strong candidate for killing her sister. She just isn't sure how to go about finding that being now and what she should do with them once she does find them.

Mac has also figured out that she is not the only one of her kind and has come in contact with others like her. A connection between her and the mysterious Jericho starts to develop. Mac's father even visits Ireland in hops of convincing her to return to the states and forgo the futile task of avenging her sister's death...as it will surly ultimately result in her death as well.

We'll see what the next book brings...

Enjoy!

The Art of Racing in the Rain by Garth Stein

This book was so good. It was from a unique point of view...the dog's. The concept behind the book is that the main character is the dog. You only know what he knows...which in some cases is different from what the people are aware of and other times leaves little gaps that you get clued into later on.

The dogs master is a race car driver. It goes through Denny, the master, meeting a woman, getting married, having a child, and how their lives change...especially the dog's. The amount of loyalty the dog shows is spot on and recognizable for even those who have never had a dog.

The dog, Enzo, has one wish...to be a race car driver. The book follows the spans of time that represents Enzo's life. There are a lot of parts that make you chuckle and some that make you sad.

It's a quick read. All in all it's a good book that I would recommend to anyone.

Enjoy!
